Inventory · Definition
The portion of inventory that is consumed and replenished in the normal cycle.
Cycle stock is the working inventory that gets used up between deliveries and rebuilt with each replenishment order. It is the sawtooth part of a stock graph, rising on receipt and falling with demand.
Together with safety stock it makes up total inventory: cycle stock covers expected demand, safety stock covers the surprises. Order quantity drives cycle stock; variability drives safety stock.
