First Expired, First Outnoun · abbr.

Picking the stock with the nearest expiry date first, regardless of receipt order.

FEFO sequences picking by expiry date rather than receipt date. A batch received later but expiring sooner goes out first, which is the only safe rule for food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and cosmetics.

FEFO is impossible without lot or batch records carrying expiry dates. Once those exist, the picking system can direct staff to the correct batch rather than the nearest pallet.
