Bonded Warehousenoun

A customs-controlled facility where imports are stored before duty is paid.

In a bonded warehouse goods sit under customs control with duty and taxes suspended. They are payable only when the goods are removed for home use, and are avoided entirely if the goods are re-exported.

It is a cash-flow instrument as much as a storage one: duty on a container can be deferred for months, though the stock cannot be sold locally until it is cleared.
