Container Freight Stationnoun · abbr.

An off-port facility where containers are unpacked, stored and cleared.

A container freight station handles containers moved out of a congested port for unpacking, consolidation, inspection and clearance. Less-than-container-load shipments are usually deconsolidated here.

CFS handling adds its own charges and its own storage clock, so a consignment can accrue port, CFS and demurrage costs in sequence if clearance stalls.
