A freight forwarder books carriage, consolidates cargo, prepares transport documents and coordinates the legs of a shipment. They do not usually own the vessels or aircraft they book.

Their value is buying power and problem-solving across modes and borders. Their quotes need reading carefully, because local charges at destination are where the difference between two quotes usually hides.
