Tax & Compliance · Definition
Issuing invoices in a structured electronic format, often validated by the tax authority.
E-invoicing exchanges invoices as structured data rather than documents, so the buyer’s system can read them without transcription. Under mandated regimes the invoice is also transmitted to the tax authority for validation.
The compliance framing tends to obscure the operational benefit: a structured invoice can be matched automatically against the purchase order and receipt, which is what makes touchless payables possible.
