Inventory · Definition
A globally unique product identifier used in barcodes and trade.
A GTIN is the internationally registered number behind retail barcodes, appearing as GTIN-13 (formerly EAN) or GTIN-12 (UPC). Unlike an internal SKU, it identifies the same product for everyone in the supply chain.
You need GTINs to sell through retailers or marketplaces. Mapping each GTIN to your internal SKU is what lets a supplier barcode, a marketplace listing and your own stock record all refer to one thing.
