Predictive Analytics

Using historical patterns to estimate what is likely to happen next.

Predictive analytics applies statistical or machine-learning models to operational history to project outcomes — demand next month, which invoices will pay late, which items will stock out.

The output is a probability, not a fact, so it is useful where it changes a decision you would otherwise make blind. Predictions nobody acts on are an expensive form of reporting.
