Idempotency
The property that repeating an operation has no additional effect.
An idempotent operation produces the same result whether it runs once or five times. Submitting the same payment instruction twice with the same reference should transfer money once.
It is what makes unreliable networks safe. Retries, double-clicks and replayed webhooks are inevitable, so the operation itself has to be safe to repeat rather than merely discouraged.
