Zone skipping pools individual parcels bound for one region, moves them there in a single line-haul, and hands them to the carrier close to their final destination — skipping the zones and rate steps in between.

It trades a day of transit and some coordination for a materially lower cost per parcel. It only works at volume, because the line-haul has to be full to beat the per-parcel rate it replaces.
