The usable output obtained from a given quantity of input material.
Material yield expresses how much saleable output a batch of input produces, after trim, evaporation, offcuts and rejects. A 92% yield means 8% of purchased material never reaches a customer.
Yield assumptions belong in the BOM and in costing. Buying to a theoretical BOM while running at 92% yield guarantees a shortage in every run.
Yield % = Usable output ÷ Material input
Track by batch — a drifting yield usually signals a process or supplier change.
