Assembly consumes component stock and creates a finished item; disassembly reverses it, converting one item back into sellable components. Both must move quantities in and out in a single balanced transaction.
Disassembly is common in distribution as well as manufacturing — breaking bulk packs into singles, or recovering parts from a returned unit. Costing the resulting components fairly is the tricky half.
