Manufacturing · Definition
A composite measure of how productively equipment is actually used.
OEE multiplies three factors: availability (was the machine running when planned), performance (did it run at rated speed) and quality (was output good first time). A single percentage results.
Because the factors multiply, respectable-looking components produce a poor total — 90% on each gives 73%. That is the point: it exposes losses that individual metrics flatter.
OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality
World-class is often cited near 85%; most unmeasured lines start nearer 50%.
