Overtime is time worked past the contractual or statutory normal week, typically compensated at a multiple of the ordinary hourly rate, with higher multiples for rest days and public holidays.
Because the premium is applied to a derived hourly rate, the definition of the normal working week is the parameter that quietly determines every overtime calculation.
