Human Resource Information System

The system of record for employee data, contracts and HR processes.

An HRIS holds the authoritative employee record — personal details, contract terms, role, documents, leave balances and history — and drives the processes that depend on it, from onboarding through to payroll input.

Its value is being one record rather than several. When the HR file, the payroll file and the system access list disagree about someone, the disagreement itself is the problem, not any one of the three.
