Net Pay

The amount an employee actually receives after all deductions.

Net pay is gross earnings less statutory deductions, benefit contributions and any voluntary deductions such as loans or welfare contributions. It is the figure that reaches the bank account.

Gross-to-net is where payroll disputes live. Explaining the bridge between the two — component by component — resolves most of them before they are raised.

How it is calculated

Net pay = Gross pay − Statutory deductions − Voluntary deductions

Employer contributions are a cost to the employer, not a deduction from net pay.
