Negative stock appears when a system lets an issue or sale be recorded before the matching receipt. The physical goods usually exist; the paperwork simply arrived in the wrong order.

Allowing it keeps the floor moving but corrupts valuation, because there is no cost layer to consume. Blocking it stops the transaction dead. Most operations permit it narrowly and report on it daily.
