XYZ Analysis

Classifying stock by how predictable its demand is.

XYZ analysis sorts items by demand variability: X items sell steadily and forecast well, Y items swing with season or trend, and Z items are sporadic and effectively unforecastable.

It is most useful crossed with ABC analysis, which ranks by value. An AZ item — high value, erratic demand — is the hardest thing in the warehouse to stock, and needs entirely different treatment from an AX item.
