Sales Order

A confirmed customer order accepted for fulfilment.

A sales order records what a customer has committed to buy: items, quantities, agreed prices, delivery date and terms. It reserves stock, drives picking and becomes the basis for the invoice.

It is the point where a quotation stops being optional. From here the promise is real, which is why stock availability should be checked before the order is confirmed rather than after.
