Social Health Insurance Fundnoun · abbr.

Kenya’s health insurance contribution deducted from gross pay.

SHIF is the health insurance contribution introduced in Kenya to replace NHIF, deducted as a percentage of gross pay and remitted monthly under the Social Health Authority framework.

It changed both the calculation basis and the filing route, so payrolls migrated from the old banded NHIF table rather than simply changing a rate. Historical payslips retain the previous treatment.
