Warehouse · Definition
Releasing groups of orders to the floor in scheduled waves.
Wave picking releases work in planned batches aligned to something external — a courier collection time, a delivery route, a shift start. Each wave is picked, packed and staged as a unit.
It synchronises the warehouse with dispatch instead of letting orders trickle out. The trade-off is that an order arriving just after a wave closes waits for the next one.
