Warehouse · Definition
Picking the same item for several orders in one trip, then sorting.
Batch picking consolidates demand for identical items across multiple orders so the picker visits each location once, collecting the total quantity, then sorts into individual orders afterwards.
It cuts travel dramatically where many orders share few items — typical of e-commerce. The sortation step it adds is the cost, and it becomes the bottleneck if batches grow too large.
