Tax Rate History And Tax Audit Export

Every change to a tax rate, recorded with who made it, when, the old and new rate and the date it takes effect — and one workbook that puts a date range’s tax lines, returns and rate history in front of an inspector.

Open Tax rate history at /accounting/tax-rate-history, or from the Taxes page.

What Is Recorded

  • A VAT or levy rate added, changed, made the default or removed.
  • A levy switched on or off for your workspace.
  • A withholding rate added, changed, activated or deactivated.

Each row shows the Effective date, the tax and its jurisdiction, the change from the old rate to the new one, By whom, when it was Recorded, and the Note given as the reason. Changes are recorded however they are made — on the web, through the API or during set-up. Filter by tax, kind of change or dates, or open one tax to see its own history.

The history is a record, not a source of rates: each document keeps the rate it was captured at, and how tax is worked out has not changed.

The Tax Audit Export

On the Tax rate history, Taxes or VAT return page, choose From and To (up to two years) and press Download workbook. The Excel file has a sheet for each of:

  • Read me — the range, who made the file and how to read it.
  • Output tax lines — every issued invoice line with the customer, their PIN, net, rate, tax and eTIMS status.
  • Till sales — with their tax and eTIMS receipt.
  • Input tax lines — every approved or paid supplier bill line, with the supplier’s PIN.
  • Credit notes — customer credit notes applied, till returns and eTIMS reversals.
  • WHT deducted and WHT remitted — withholding taken from suppliers or by customers, and what was paid over.
  • Rate history — every rate change up to the end of the range, with the one in effect marked.
  • VAT returns — returns overlapping the range, with status and filing reference.
  • Reconciliation — the tax accounts’ opening balance, movement and closing balance set against the document totals.

Line amounts are in each document’s currency, with the tax also in base currency where the document carries a rate; totals and the reconciliation are base currency only. The file’s SHA-256 checksum is written to the audit log, so the copy you handed over can be shown to be unchanged.

Permissions

  • View accounting — read the history and download the workbook.

The rate history can also be read in the AWRA mobile app, and both are available through the API.
